Vertico, a trusted expert in the country, along with the University of Ghent, joined forces to print the first concrete bridge out of a typical 3D printer. The modern and new technique is designed to deposit special mixtures layer by layer to build concrete, durable and impact-resistant structures. “The procedure eliminates the need for luxury moulds. “It’s time for the construction industry to innovate. However, the traditional techniques to build organic shapes and unique forms can worsen the CO2 greenhouse gas emissions on a global scale. But with this project, we can build more infrastructure projects while promoting CO2 reduction, productivity, and automation,” Ruitinga added.
The conventional construction procedure has been associated with injuries, expensive material costs, and poor durability. With 3D printing, there’s a reduction in injuries and costly materials.
The durability will be better. Studies show that the modern process contributes to the durability of any structural elements. Thanks to the way that materials are made and assembled. Buildings or infrastructure will be less prone to constant repairs.
This also has the potential to give startups and companies the chance to focus their efforts on driving profit and improving their services.
3D printing has also been known for its ability to create atypical or unique design structures. So, when clients want a customized and sturdy building, 3D printing makes everything possible.
Currently, the Netherlands-based company has been working on a 3D printing concrete dome house. Vertico has already commissioned sculptures, two concrete canoes, and an architectural façade.
Possibly, the production will kick off in 2020. By February and beyond, let’s hope that the construction industry will be a subject of constant automation and production with this non-conventional procedure.
